Listening is the beginning of loving.

1. Active Listening – the foundation of communication
Listening attentively to what your child is saying helps them feel like they have “their own space and are valued.” A child’s ability to express themselves and emotional regulation develops when they are actively listened to.
2. Before you judge — recognize and acknowledge their emotions
Instead of directly correcting or scolding your child when they express negative emotions, encourage them to “name” and “express” their emotions.
Emotional literacy develops in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
3. “Listening space” builds trust
When you listen to your child calmly and without judgment, they will open up to you. This is the foundation for future psychological resilience and trusting relationships. Children who grow up in a safe environment gain the foundation for trusting others and having a positive self-esteem.
4. Listening fosters a child's "self-worth"
When children are listened to sincerely, they receive a signal that says, “I am loved and respected.” This supports self-confidence. Self-esteem is based on attention and respect.
